Nelson County Health System P O Box 367 McVille, ND 58254 701.322.4328
Due to an unfortunate, weather related accident our 2003 Van was damaged beyond repair on
November 28, 2006. Fortunately no one was seriously injured.
The van is essential to the everyday functions of the Nelson County Health System and we had
been without one for quite some time. This van is used to transport Health System residents and
patients for medical appointments, the majority of these being to Altru in Grand Forks.
We are grateful to Aneta Parkview Health Center and Nelson County Transportation for borrowing
us their vans in order to meet our transportation needs.
Mileage on this van was 71,200 miles. The log book shows an average of nearly 2000 miles
monthly. Many times it would make trips to Grand Forks several times a week.
A new van was ordered. The difference between the insurance company settlement and the cost
of the new one was $13,000.
Your gifts made it possible to complete this project. THANK YOU from everyone at Nelson
County Health System and the Foundation.

DOUBLE your donation DMF match grant
Dakota Medical Foundation, Fargo, ND has partnered with Nelson County Health System in
order to raise funds to replace the bath tub in the NCHS Hospital. This grant will provide up to
$7,500 in matching funds for NCHS.
The only requirement is that your donation be $100, or more and made out to:
Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF). Every donation meeting these requirements will be
matched dollar for dollar!!
The current tub in the Hospital is over 24 years old and irreparable, as they no longer make the
replacement parts. It is also not an adequate length for the majority of our patients thereby making
it unsafe. Side or rear entry tubs range in price from $21,000 to $32,000, not including the cost of
installation.
This matching grant program is an excellent opportunity for individuals, businesses, churches,
and service organizations to double the dollar value of their contributions.
Nelson County Health System serves the health needs of Nelson County and the surrounding
communities. This includes any patient, regardless of age, using our Hospital.
Remember to make your contribution payable to Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF) AND the
donation MUST be $100 or more in order to be or doubled!!

SOFTWARE PACKAGE
NCHS uses one software package for all of it's healthcare accounting needs including
admission, billing, and other accounting functions. It is DOS run program that has been in the
facility for over 10 years. That company that supports this software will stop at the end of 2008.
This means that NCHS is forced into updating our accounting software.
After a search, and consultation with other healthcare facilities in the state, NCHS decided to
start with the most economical package available. The new software functions include:
- Patient Registration
- Billing
- Accounts Receivable
- General Ledger and Budget
- Accounts Payable
- Payroll
The new software package allows electronic submission of financial information with
insurance companies and government agencies, including Medicare. The software will also
allow for a phase-in to a complete Electronic Medical Records program in the future if it
becomes mandated by the federal government.
NCHS is involved with other statewide Critical Access Hospitals and Altru with use of a Data
Center. The Data Center will run the new software and provide backup for the information. The
cost savings are significant by the collaboration between the hospitals. Grants have been
obtained to support part of the total cost be we are still short of funds.
You can donate in one of three ways. Your donation can be dropped off at the any of the
NCHS facilities, hospital, Care Center, McVille Clinic or Lakota Health Center. Our staff will be
sure it gets to the Foundation. You can use your credit card and donate online by clicking on
the Impact Foundation link at the left. You can also mail your donations directly to the
foundation at:

It is extremely important that NCHS have the funds available to purchase this
software by October 1, 2008! Please consider giving a generous donation to help us
meet this financial need today.
