Nelson County Health System Care Center
was recently given a Best Practices Award for
their Resident Christmas Picture Project. The
award will be given out at the ND Long Term
Care Conference in September.
This is a wonderful project for the residents and
their families.
Everyone gets involved and that is a big reason
that the Care Center received this award.

residents up in outfits the resident picks out just for this event, Laundry makes sure
all clothing is clean and ready to wear, Activities helps residents with accessories
(ties, hats, jewelry, makeup), Social Services takes and distributes the pictures, and
Dietary provides a wonderful lunch. It is a whole facility affair.
Congratulations to the Care Center Staff for being recognized for this wonderful
project!
Thanks to the wonderful support of the people of our area Altru’s Hospice of
Nelson/Griggs counties “Table Fantasia” was a sell out!! For those of you who didn’t
buy tickets early please remember seating is limited and tickets go very fast.
Beautifully decorated theme tables were viewed by attendees at the Michigan Civic
Center on Saturday morning, April 12, 2008. A delicious luncheon, prepared by
“Paddee’s Catering” was served to guests following table grace by Allen Rusten.
Sue Fisk, Altru’s Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, welcomed the guests and
thanked committee members.
Linda Retzlaff introduced the tables and their hostesses. They were:

Karla Messner, Case Manager, Altru Home Services, talked about the importance
of local hospice care and the need for financial support.
Nelson County Health Services Foundation sponsored this event and would like
to extend our thanks to McVille Floral for the special floral arrangement, Dee
Lillehaugen for catering our lunch, Jeff Anderson for donating ice, Gayle Anderson
for being the photographer, Derrick Fisk, Gordie Maresh, Ervie Schmidt, and Steve
Smaage for setting up the tables and chairs, Victoria Haabak for the Pizzelles and the
City of Michigan and Jay Haugen for the use of the Civic Center. We extend a big
thank you to all who helped with punch, tickets, and in the kitchen. We greatly
appreciate everyone’s donations and efforts, this benefit would not be a success
without all your help and our Table Hostesses.
Plans are underway for another “Table Fantasia” event next year. The committee
expresses gratitude for all the support of this worthy cause of hospice. Remember
one hundred percent of the dollars raised by this Benefit STAYS in the Community
for use for Hospice expenses.
